The City of Veracruz is without a doubt, one of the main cities of the state with the same name. In the following we mention some of the main tourist attractions:
Right next to the main square there are the most vivid portals in all Mexico. This group of arches hosts a great variety of restaurants and bars where you will be able to enjoy live music of all genres, practically all day and night. Boredom simply does not fit in this place.
It hosted the first city hall in the Mexico and in the continent of America. The building features portals in its two floors; it was finished in 1627 and one century later a tower with a bell was added, which was used to announce the arrival of the ships.
It was finished in 1721. Located on Independencia Avenue. It consists on three big units with three domes. It features a 40 meters high tower with a bell and a public clock at the top.
Within the context of modernization given to Veracruz City at the end of the Porfirio Diaz Presidency, it was considered the extension of the port zone which included the creation of a Malecon (coastal avenue) in front of the wharves. Throughout this malecon are displayed many attractions, souvenir shops, hotels and coffee shops. Its pleasant breeze makes it ideal for an evening walk.
In addition to that, every Wednesday from 19:00 hours you will be able to enjoy beautiful folk show, where during one hour, groups and ballets play and perform traditional dances and songs.
Its construction dates back from the year 1582; the small island where the castle is located was visited for the first time by Juan de Grijalva, in 1518. The fortress preserves some of the tombstones in which the historical development is described. After it served as a force, it also became a convent and a penitentiary facility as well. Currently it counts with a small museum where plans, objects and documents from the colonial history and later periods from the Veracruz history are exhibited.
It is located over the “Playon de Hornos”, within the Acuario shopping mall.
